Matinée Scientifique: Panzi’s holistic model OSC (One Stop Center)

A scientific morning was organized at Panzi Foundation on July 3, 2024 on the holistic model of care for victims of sexual violence “One Stop Center (OSC)” or “Guichet unique” of Panzi Hospital and Foundation in a large meeting room at Panzi Foundation.

This scientific morning was attended by the Swansea University team, as well as nursing and non-medical staff from the hospital and Panzi Foundation.

The event was opened by Dr Denis Mukwege, winner of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize.

Various presentations followed, including:

  • The presentation of Panzi’s holistic “One Stop Center” or “guichet unique” model by Bertin Rutega,
  • Presentation of Panzi’s research center, ICART, by Professor Marie Hatem
  • Presentation of the vaginal surgery training program by Dr. Mukanire
  • Swansea University on plastic surgery, practices, exchanges of techniques and opportunities to work with Panzi
  • A presentation by Professor Sohier El-Nell in obstetrics and gynecology on fistulas
  • A presentation on genital prolapse in young people of childbearing age
  • A presentation on the Panzi score by Dr Christine Amisi Tina
  • A presentation by Dr Prisca on foreign bodies in the context of rape

This was followed by a question and answer session on all the presentations, recommendations and comments.

At the end of this scientific morning, Dr. Mukwege closed the activity by presenting gifts to the Swansea University team (England) as a mark of thanks and recognition.

For Dr. Mukwege, recommendations were made to the Panzi teams, including to always seize these kinds of opportunities to advance the work, not only for Panzi, but above all for themselves, and to publish at least three research articles per year.

The Duchess’s secretary and the representative of the Swansea University team, all sent by the Duchess of Edinburg to Panzi, then signed the Panzi Foundation guest book.
